Back to the Future

Welcome to the English version of a German trilogy about modern history from the perspective of everyday people. It starts with a daring escape from the GDR.

In his real-time diary, the author describes a true crime for which he was sentenced to prison in 1984.

This diary is the sequel to his father's memoirs, which were published as a book in 2016. Both stories are based on facts.

Who I am

Thomas Jannot, born in 1965 in Merseburg (Saxony-Anhalt), has lived in Bad Aibling (Bavaria) since 1993. He has been running a small publishing house there since 2006, producing editorial content for companies.

Before that, he worked for two decades as a senior editor and editor-in-chief in international magazine publishing houses and wrote five specialised books on the side. After fleeing the GDR in 1984, he became interested in everything to do with East Germany.
