I don’t know the German translation but found the original both fascinating and refreshing. Mostly because of the shift of focus onto the average East German and their perception of what was happening to them then and what befell them afterwards.
Thank you for the feedback and yes, absolutely understandable. I felt the same way. I even listened to the English audiobook twice with the same fascination. But many East Germans have experienced supposedly normal things completely differently. The German translation should take more account of this.
